Summary
The Club of Rome report (1972) highlighted an impending crisis for the planet, with a rising global population and increasing resource use. Existing universities were not providing people with the skills to respond to the crisis, so Bill proposed the Permaculture teaching model. The strength of this system is the emphasis on the students (who are our future) and the rapid dissemination of knowledge and skills.
Key Points
- Itinerant teachers – who rapidly spread knowledge across the globe
- A good curriculum – the designer’s manual and 72 hour course format
- Every student can teach
- Students have the right to be taught the curriculum
As a result Permaculture is now in every continent across the globe.
Notes on process: Spoken lecture to whole group, no visuals or handouts. First session of convergence.
