Summary
After 24 years travelling around the world, Igor returned to his grandfather's land in Istria "to build paradise". With very little money he has built a house and plans to expand this to a small ecovillage. He is looking for more people to join him. The project has lots of visitors, particularly children, who enjoy the contact with animals and nature.
Key Points
- The site is 3km from Bale and 23km from Pula. It is 7 hectares in size and is surrounded by forest.
- He started work to clear the road by hand with help from a volunteer camp.
- He was given a wooden garden house, which has been insulated with sheep wool and uses passive solar energy to heat it in summer.
- He built a small beach house for €250.
- He is building an Istrian round house - starting with the chimney.
- There are 5 teepees on site, a camping area in the forest, a compost toilet, a small kitchen garden, raised beds and a herb spiral.
- Water is an issue - there are 3 months without rain in the summer.
- He has a blind donkey and some goats.
