Juan was here representing the Permaculture Association of El Salvador (IPES) which has a training centre on 90h. of land. IPES issues certificates to farmers who are running their farms along permaculture principles. IPES belongs to the Mesoamerican Permaculture Institute based in Guatemala. It has a demonstration of “milpa”: traditional Mayan way of inter-cropping with squash, beans, corn, sunflower and amaranth.
Key points:
- The 1st Mesoamerican Convergence on Sustainable Development and Permaculture will be held in Guatemala in Nov. 2005. It will be open only to indigenous peoples of the region.
There will be three themes:
- Region-wide models of alternative development.
- Indigenous cosmo-vision (traditional Mayan spiritual culture). To include elders from local communities.
- Permaculture in the tropics.
